Does Facebook keep logging you out of the app and asking you to input your login details again?

Not only is this time consuming but it can be annoying – especially when you don’t have the details to hand or have forgotten your password.

Luckily, most of the common causes are both fixable and temporary. Let’s take a closer look at some of the reasons why you might find yourself logged out of Facebook on a regular basis.

You’re Browsing on an Outdated App

If you are using a version of Facebook that is outdated, you will find that performance is impacted. This may not be obvious straight away, but over time you will find that features work more slowly or cease working entirely – with the app kicking you out as a way of encouraging you to download the latest version of Facebook.

The obvious solution to this is to download the most up to date version of the app for your device.

You’re Using a VPN to Browse

Facebook is all about protecting personal information and data. As such, if you happen to be browsing on a public device or via a VPN as opposed to a private WiFi and internet connection, you might find that the app automatically logs you out for your own good.

Typically, the best fix for this is to reserve Facebook and social browsing for devices that you have full control over. This means using a WiFi or internet connection that is private and protected, rather than a VPN.

There’s a Glitch at Facebook Hq

Early in 2024, a glitch at Facebook HQ meant that countless users all over the world suddenly found themselves logged out of their accounts and unable to sign back in.

Despite being a temporary issue which was resolved within a few hours, this caused widespread panic and is an excellent example of how much hysteria can be caused when Facebook access is lost.

The solution to this was, rather frustratingly, patience and simply waiting out the problem. Facebook finally revolved it and restored access to users – however, it raised issues around how the app copes with widescale glitches.

Someone Else Has Logged You Out

Could you have left your Facebook logged in on someone else’s device or on a public device?

If so, you might be at risk of them hacking your account and changing your details – which is why, if you suddenly find yourself logged out with no explanation, it’s important to check the other locations where your account is logged in.

To do this, head to your Settings on Facebook and navigate to your Accounts Centre.

Once in the Accounts Centre menu, select ‘Password and Security’ then ‘Where You’re Logged in’

Here you can see exactly where your Facebook profile has been accessed and when and can select any and all devices that you want to disconnect. Doing this will ensure that your account is not dormant but logged in somewhere that can be taken advantage of by a stranger.

Suffice to say, it’s annoying when Facebook keeps kicking you out of your account and forcing you to log back in – however, the chances are that there’s a simple explanation. If not, and if none of the advice shared above helps, then you might need to reach out to Facebook directly for advice on how to proceed.
