The controversial ban on TikTok for under-16s in Australia continues to make headlines, with the ban due to come into effect in just six months’ time.
In a bid to challenge the ban, TikTok is increasing the exposure of educational content to younger users, with a reported 10 million videos hitting the Science, Maths, Engineering, and Technology feeds towards the end of May 2025.
Whether this will change anything remains to be seen, while a report on findings as to whether the UK will undergo a similar ban is also due in July 2025.

This has been a hot topic of conversation for years.
Ever since it first rose to prominence in 2016, TikTok has continued to take the social media landscape by storm, with users able to build their profile organically or with the help of reputable supporting companies. Those with a large following can earn money through the platform, via direct sponsorship and partnerships with brands and other influencers. The rise in demand for creators and influencers supports businesses reliance on user-generated content, with the younger audience among the most desirable for brands.
The impact of a ban, nationally across Australia or on a wider scale if the ban expands, could therefore be huge.
