Instagram chief Adam Mosseri has been prolific across social media in recent months, sharing advice with those looking to grow their profile, and debunking myths along the way.
His most recent announcement concerns captions – essentially giving businesses, creators, and users permission to make captions as long or as short as they like.
Asked whether long captions impact the reach of a post, Mosseri stated that long captions can be a powerful way to share a story – but that they are not a necessary part of your posting strategy. In short, you can opt for short captions or choose longer captions, safe in the knowledge that neither will impact your reach.
What Else is New on Instagram?
With more and more creators choosing Reels as their preferred form of content, new retention metrics look set to support growth.
Part of this includes giving creators information about when during playback a user chooses to close a reel – providing insight into what works and how long your audience will stay engaged before moving on.
The view figures on a reel are also being replaced by a “skip rate” – based on the idea that it is more important to know how many users are skipping past content within 3 seconds, so you can identify which clips aren’t landing well with your audience.
This insight, combined with unrivalled access to follower packages from reputable companies, means that Instagram growth and follower retention has never been better.
