TikTok has outlined its latest returns policy for businesses using the TikTok Shop function, prioritising the experience of its users and their right to return products (within reason).

The announcement from TikTok states that all shoppers have a right to return products within 30 days of delivery, using a QR code or pre-paid returns label. Notably, shoppers shouldn’t have to pay for their own returns.

The announcement also acknowledges that return timeframes may differ, and that some products are exempt from the policy – notably those that pose a safety or hygiene risk.

The Relevance of Standardised TikTok Returns Policies

The move to standardise the experience of TikTok shopping seeks to make buying online a more consistent experience for shoppers. Countless comedic posts have been shared by shoppers who don’t get what they ordered, despite the rise in TikTok shopping as a widely used corner of the app.

Livestream sales are a particularly interactive content idea for creators seeking more followers, with Black Friday 2024 seeing an increase in sales of up to 3x the usual sale rate.

Of course, the future of TikTok in the US remains unknown, with the national ban still very much on the table. But for now, TikTok shopping remains a viable and very popular way to while away some time on the social media platform!
