The rise in AI creators and AI-generated content means that, more often than not, scrolling through your Discovery feed brings to light a mix of real content and fake and artificial videos.
However, Instagram is on a mission to make this easier to digest, by changing the way it labels AI creators and profiles.
The term ‘AI generated profile’ will replace ‘AI creator’, with users given more insight into which characters and figures in their feed are real – and which are not. But what does this mean for users?
The Benefit of AI Profile Insight
There once was a time when Meta in particular planned to embed AI characters and users into its platforms seamlessly, enabling and encouraging real users to engage with bots unknowingly. This, however, never came to fruition – with this latest development actually representing a move in the opposite direction. The reason for this is likely down to the rising distrust that seems to be plaguing the AI sphere across social media and beyond.
As a user, knowing which profiles are likely to contain AI characters can help with a feeling of authenticity, and minimise the risk of feeling duped or tricked by a profile.
For businesses and creators who use AI-generated figures, this added transparency increases the trust that users will have in your profile and in what you post. This in turn will lead to an increase in engagement and will help to reduce the number of users who unfollow an account after finding out it uses AI generated profiles and characters.
Is a refreshed AI label something that would help you to feel like an account is more authentic and trustworthy, even if it does use AI?
