One of the biggest motivating forces for Instagram creators is the possibility of earning more followers, receiving more engagement, and increasing the chances of virality.

To go viral on Instagram is to create content that escalates in its visibility – with no real rhyme or reason behind what’s hot and what’s not on any given day. Changing trends mean that it’s increasingly difficult to pinpoint exactly what will perform well – just one of the reasons why buying packages of comments has become so popular.

But Instagram is looking for new ways to engage creators, this time by showcasing their content to targeted groups of non-followers. The Trial Reels feature puts creator content out to a sample audience, made up of users who don’t already follow the poster.

How Trial Reels Can Help Creators

Creating and posting a trial reel allows the creator to see how their content will be received before sharing it, protecting their reputation and providing an unbiased overview of content quality and its wider reception.

It also helps to build a broader audience, by enabling creators to reshare posts that their followers have already seen and that which performed well – using the opportunity to reach more users.

There is a cap on trial Reels, with creators able to share 20 a day. But in a social landscape where quality is as important as quantity, having a cap on the maximum reels that can be posted is no bad thing!
