Like so many social media platforms and apps, TikTok has listened to its users needs and requests – and has integrated a private messaging tool through which users can share messages and links with their nearest and dearest.

The private messaging app on TikTok is accessible via the home screen, by selecting on the speech box icon labelled ‘Inbox’.

Clicking on this icon, which is sat along the bottom of the home screen for all users, will open an Inbox that lets you know the following…

  • Who has messaged you
  • Who has recently started following you
  • Any activities that you should be aware of on the platform
  • System notifications directly from TikTok

The messaging space of the TikTok app is also where you will be able to start a new message stream with a user, and where all Suggested Accounts that you may want to follow will be listed.

How to Know if You’ve Received a New Message

New messages and notifications in your TikTok inbox will be highlighted on the home screen, with a red number sat just on top of the messaging icon.

If you have push notifications activated, you may also receive a notification directly through your device that will let you know a new message is waiting. These notifications can be defined and set on TikTok as well as in your device settings – ensuring that you don’t miss any updates from your friends.

And there you have it! Checking your messages on TikTok really is as simple as jumping into your inbox – with push notifications an extra step that you can add should you want to be made aware of new messages even when you’re not active on TikTok.
