Algorithm Control Extended to Instagram Main Feed

If you are a fan of the way Instagram allows you to control your algorithm on your Discovery page, then you’ll love the latest feature from the social media giant.

Instagram has recently rolled out a user-led algorithm control function over the main feed, so that users can let Instagram know what they do and do not want to see on their main homepage.

The Impact of the Algorithm

The reality of modern social media is that users can never completely control the exact content they see. However, the algorithm and Instagram’s emphasis on what users engage with and view over what they skip or dislike, means that users have more control than ever over what they are exposed to.

For creators, the algorithm can be a way for their content to be categorised and shown to those users who are most likely to engage with it – through the Discovery page and through recommended content. If a creator buys a pool of followers or a selection of likes through a reputable online source, they have only a finite amount of time to capture those new followers and engaged users before the algorithm changes again – meaning responsive and consistently high quality content is key.

This move towards an algorithm-fuelled main feed will help to make Instagram an even more personal experience. So, have you noticed your main feed becoming more tailored to your preferences, in terms of how content is displayed and how recommendations are balanced with your most followed and engaged with accounts?
