In a move to protect European users’ data, TikTok has launched the next stage in its place to become more self-sufficient within the European region; breaking ground on a new data centre in Finland.
The aim of this separation process is to move away from reliance on Chinese data centres, in the hopes that this will prevent TikTok from undergoing a complete ban in Europe.
With the United States still facing its nationwide ban at the end of September if an American buyer doesn’t come forward, this creation of a new data centre will prevent Europe from following suit and banning the platform completely.
Why is This Important Right Now?
With the United States days away from its potential ban, it could be that Europe becomes the new epicentre of TikTok’s development. If this is the case, then TikTok will become more reliant than ever on Europe – with this just one major step towards keeping the nations sweet.
And we have to admit – it’s good for users too! By keeping European data within the region, personal information is protected, whether it’s the names of organic and purchased followers, data relating to your own account, and other information.
