Worried that you can’t tell the difference between authentic content and AI-generated content on social media? Then you’re the perfect candidate for TikTok’s new guide, which focuses on AI literacy and how to detect fake and artificial content.

Why is AI Literacy Important?

The rise of fake news and artificial content is such that users are finding it increasing difficult to recognise what’s real and what’s not. This leads to a rise in the spread of misinformation, as well as an increase in spam accounts that tout fake advice and news stories.

The risk is that, not only are users misinformed, but they start to lose their trust in TikTok as a discovery tool – something that TikTok hopes its AI literacy guide and educational tool will help to mitigate.

AI: The Latest Doubled-Edged Sword

The reality is that, used creatively, AI can be a beneficial tool for social media creators across all industries. From keeping groups of new followers engaged through regular and creative content, to supporting the efficient editing of videos and images, AI can provide real value.

But with that creativity comes a form of standardisation which is becoming increasingly prolific. Social media apps are becoming flooded with the same advert designs, the same marketing ideas, the same videos, and endless examples of misinformation.

AI literacy, and the rise of educational tools that help users to not only detect AI but to learn how to use it creatively and productively, can only be a good thing for social media apps across the world.
