TikTok has elevated its DM platform, by allowing users to share more in the way of content medium and media.
No longer are users restricted to text and emoji messages and reactions. Now, users can send voice notes, images, and video clips – both in group DM streams and in private chats with friends.
The Benefit of Enhanced Media Messages
With much the same format as WhatsApp message sharing, TikTok users will notice a few additional tools in their DM chat box – including a microphone for recording voice notes, and a camera icon to capture or share existing images / videos from the sender’s device.
The benefit of this added functionality, especially for those looking to create deeper connections with users, is that the added mediums all increase the chance of engagement and interaction with new followers as well as the creators’ existing community.Â
And it doesn’t end there.
TikTok is optimising the way that this new functionality can be used, by increasing its safety to features to prevent an image or video from being sent as the initial message. What’s more, TikTok DMs are not accessible to users under the age of 16, further protecting younger users from being exposed to potentially harmful content.
