The only place that we can start this article is with a disclosure: it is impossible to completely block all ads from showing in your Facebook feed and throughout your Facebook browsing experience. Ads are an intrinsic part of the app and its design, and support businesses and creators alike in spreading the word about their content and profile.
Having said that, there are steps that you can take to control the kinds of ads that you see on your Facebook app.
How to Hide Ads You Don’t Like
Hiding ads that you see and that you either don’t like or don’t find interesting, is one of the best ways to keep Facebook informed about what you find valuable and what you don’t. The more you do this, through both hiding ads and liking those that are of interest, the better Facebook will become at tailoring the ads you see to your interests.
To hide an ad, simply click on the three dots icon in the top corner of the ad post and select ‘Hide Ad’.
How to Control the Ads You Do See
This comes from behaviour and taking action every time you see an ad on Facebook – whether that action is to tell Facebook that you like an ad and want to see more like it, or don’t like an ad and want to see fewer from that industry or style.
This can be done by clicking the same three dots button in the top corner of the ad, but selecting one of two options:
- Show Fewer
The more often you do this, the more familiar Facebook will become of your preferences – and the more likely you are to start seeing ads that you resonate with rather than ones that don’t suit your preferences and interests.
We hope this helps!
