Your profile picture is the window to your Facebook presence.

Users are free and able to change their profile picture as often as they like – whether that be by choosing a new photo, tapping into a trend (for example, using one of the trending borders or filters), or celebrating a special occasion.

Because of this, Facebook has made it incredibly easy for users to change their profile picture. And in this blog, we’re sharing some of the quickest and easiest ways to do so.

How to Upload a New Profile Picture

Uploading a new profile picture means turning an image that’s saved in your device gallery into a profile image.

It’s important to note before you change your profile image that Facebook displays your image in a circular shape. This may impact the look of your image and its position in the frame, so be sure to choose the right image according to this detail.

To upload a new profile picture from your device camera roll or gallery, head to your profile page and click on the small camera icon which overlaps with your profile picture. From the pop up menu that appears, click on ‘Select Profile Picture’.

You can then preview your profile picture, adjust the placement of the image in the circular frame, and upload it – not just to your profile but as an update on your feed as well.

Turning a Tagged Photo Into a Profile Picture

If you have uploaded a photo to Facebook or been tagged in a photo, you can quickly turn this into your profile picture by opening the image in full screen mode and tapping on the three dots in the top right hand corner of the screen.

From the pop up menu, select ‘Save Photo’.

You can then follow the process above for uploading a new profile picture, accessing the newly saved image that you were tagged in on Facebook and now want to use as your profile image.

Returning to an Old Profile Picture

Every time you upload a new profile picture, you add to an album of profile images that you can scroll back through at any time.

To view previous profile images, click on the camera icon which overlaps your own profile picture and select ‘See Profile Picture’. This will open your current profile picture as a full screen image, within an album of former images used for your profile picture.

If you decide to return to an old profile picture, you can do so using the menu attached to the image.

How to Choose a Great Profile Picture

Armed with the above process, all that’s left to do is choose the perfect profile picture to represent yourself on Facebook.

For business pages, a logo is always a good bet. For private users, a clear image of you is often the best representation – and a good way to ensure that users who want to find you on Facebook will be able to identify you alongside other users with the same name.

Finally, remember the importance of the circular frame and the fact that your profile picture will appear in a circle shape. This can impact how much of an image is seen by other users, so choose carefully and adjust the position of your image until you’re happy to share it.

We hope this helps!
