Has someone recently asked you about a message they sent you, which you swore you never received?
It could be that the message they sent you has been hidden by the platform.
Facebook Messenger boasts several different filters which segment messages as they are received. If someone who is not your friend on Facebook sends you a direct message via Messenger, there is a high chance that it will be filtered out and sent to your Message Requests.
As users do not receive notifications about Message Requests, you will need you to check in on this section of your inbox on a regular basis to ensure you don’t miss anything. Here’s how to do it…
3 Steps to Check Your Hidden Messages / Message Requests
- Open the Messenger app and click on the three lines icon in the top left hand corner of your screen
- Select ‘Message Requests’ from the pop up menu
- Use the two tabs to browse your message requests – with Facebook separating these into messages from ‘People You May Know’ and those which it thinks are ‘Spam’
If you still can’t find the message which someone is asking about, it is also worth checking your Archive folder in case the message and your conversation with the user has been archived.
We hope this helps. The various filters that Facebook Messenger uses are all designed to keep your inbox clean and tidy – removing messages from those who you don’t know and placing them into message requests that you can browse at a suitable time.
