Messenger is one of those strange apps which operates as its own platform in some respects yet is intrinsically linked with Facebook from a friendship and interactions point of view.

If someone blocks you on Facebook, you are automatically blocked on Messenger too.

However, if someone blocks you via Messenger, you are only blocked from sending them messages and from attempting to call them. By this we mean that they have to select a specific option for this block to translate over to the main Facebook platform too.

What this means for users is that it’s not always obvious when you’ve been blocked on Messenger – especially if the person doing the blocking has left you as an active friend on Facebook.

With that in mind then, what are some of the signs to look out that indicate someone may have blocked you on Facebook Messenger?

What Happens When You Are Blocked on Messenger?

When you are blocked on Messenger, your messages will not be received by the user, and any calls you attempt to make will be blocked.

Here are some signs to look out for…

The Check Mark Sits in an Empty Circle

When you send a message on Facebook Messenger, you may see the check mark icon appear. This indicates the status of your message, from sent to delivered and eventually read.

If the check mark remains in an empty circle, which indicates that it has been sent but not delivered, then it could be that your messages are blocked from being received on the user’s account.

They Seem Active on Group Chats

If you are part of a group chat with someone who you might have blocked you on Messenger, it’s worth noting that the block does not carry over into the group.

This means you will still be able to read their messages and interact with them via the group chat. If they seem very active in the group chat but your private messages remain undelivered and ignored, this is a good indication that you are blocked.

Ask Them!

If someone has asked you not to message them and you persist, or they are open about blocking you on Messenger, then you’ve got your answer.

Being blocked on Facebook Messenger is not a nice feeling, though it doesn’t always carry over into the main Facebook platform. If you are also blocked by someone on Facebook then there are lots of other signs to look out to do with their account and Facebook activity – however, this article is purely about Messenger. We hope it helps!
