While Facebook users are not supposed to create or hold more than one personal account, it is possible to hold multiple accounts if you run a business.
Personal pages must represent an individual and must not be used for profit or commercial reasons. This is clearly stated in Facebook’s community guidelines which specify all users must sign up using their authentic information.
With that said then, how can users create another Facebook account when they already have an active page?
Creating a Second Facebook Account in the Facebook App
If you are using the Facebook app and want to create another account, follow these steps:
- Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner, indicated by a small circular version of your profile picture
- Click on the dropdown arrow next to your user name
- At the bottom of the list of your existing accounts and pages, tap ‘Create Facebook Profile’
- Select whether you want to create a new Personal Profile or Public Page. To create another standard account, opt for the former ‘Personal Profile’ option
The beauty of creating another account via this method is that you can easily switch between your different Facebook personas at the click of a button. This is only the case if you sign up for a new account using the same email address and password – if you are signing up for another account for someone else, this is not a feature you will want or need access to. More on that later in this article.
As you move through the stages to create another Facebook account, you will be invited to connect to an existing Instagram profile or build your account from scratch.
Once complete, you can start inputting your information, selecting a profile picture, and personalising your profile with interests and personal details.
Creating a Second Facebook Account in a Web Browser
To create a new Facebook account via a web browser, the process is much the same.
- Click on the menu button which is located in the top right hand corner
- Tap ‘See All Profiles’
- Select ‘Create New Profile or Page’
- To create a new Facebook profile, choose ‘Personal Profile’ and follow the set up instructions
Again, this will give you the ability to switch between different profiles. But what if you want to create a brand new standalone account?
Creating a New Standalone Facebook Account
To create a new account on Facebook that is unconnected with other existing accounts, you need to sign out of your current profile and build a new account from the sign up screen.
To do this, you will need access to an email address that is not currently linked with a Facebook account.
Follow the steps to choose an email address and password, then select your profile picture, enter your profile name, and build your account from scratch.
We hope this helps – with options to build a new profile linked with your existing account or build and establish a brand new Facebook presence from the ground up.
