There are several ways of removing an unwanted Facebook post from your profile feed. While many users opt to hide the post from their profile and thereby limit visibility for their friends and followers, others choose to delete the post completely.

Of course, there may be occasions where you regret the action and want to reverse it – restoring a post to full view on your page.

In this article, we’re looking at the process of recovering a deleted post and how much time you have to act before it’s gone forever.

Things to Know Before Attempting to Recover a Deleted Post

The first and most important thing that you need to know before recovering a deleted post is that you only have 30 days to do so.

Deleted posts are sent to a trash bin within your own Facebook posts archive, where they sit for 30 days. So, if you want to recover a deleted post, you need to do it within a month of hitting that delete button.

5 Steps to Recover a Deleted Post

  1. Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your Facebook screen and tap your name at the top of the menu to navigate to your profile page
  2. Select the button underneath your profile picture with the three dots
  3. Select ‘Activity Log’ from your Profile Settings menu
  4. Click on ‘Activity History’ then select the ‘Trash’ button at the top of the screen
  5. All posts that have been deleted less than 30 days ago will appear in a grid on this ‘Trash’ page. To move a post from your Activity Trash back to your profile, click on it and select ‘Restore’

Once you have restored a post, it will be moved back to your profile feed.

Can You Recover Deleted Posts After 30 Days?

Facebook’s 30 day deleted posts archive means that once the 30 day period is over, posts are in theory gone for good.

However, there are some things you can try if you want to find a post that you deleted more than 30 days ago. These include:

  • Search on Facebook for some keywords that you know were in the original post, and see if it appears
  • If you have email notifications activated and linked to your posts, try checking your emails for updates regarding the deleted post

While you may not be able to restore it to your profile, these tips can help you to remember what the original post said and what your engagement stats were like.

We hope this helps! Facebook has several features and tools in place to help users maximise their privacy and control their profile and post visibility. So, if you accidentally delete a post or change your mind about a post you’ve deleted, following the above process can help.
