Have you tried to buy or sell something on Facebook Marketplace, only to find that the individual you are dealing with is messing you around and wasting your time?

There are all sorts of users out there, and while most are genuine and will only use Facebook Marketplace to genuinely purchase or sell their goods, others are in it to try and scam other users.

Here’s what to do if you come across a scammer on Marketplace.

4 Steps to Report a Scammer on Marketplace

If you spot red flags on a Facebook Marketplace listing, or feel that you are dealing with someone who is trying to scam you in some way, then these are the steps to take…

  1. Visit their Marketplace profile, or if they are a seller then visit the listing that you are suspicious of
  2. Click on the three dots icon on the listing or their profile, and select ‘Find Support or Report’
  3. Follow the various prompts and answer the questions relating to the scam
  4. Submit your report, and look out for further contact from Facebook regarding extra details

It is important that you screenshot and document any interaction you have with the scammer, especially that which could be used as evidence later down the line following your report.

As reports are always kept anonymous by Facebook, there is little to no risk of your report being fed back to them and so you can take the necessary action while feeling confident that they will not know it was you.

We hope this helps. Being scammed on Facebook marketplace or anywhere else on the app can feel invasive and worrying – however, Facebook has a comprehensive reporting system in place to ensure that users are supported and protected.
