The great thing about Facebook is the sense of community that users enjoy, both within the groups they join and with the users who they make friends and connect with via the platform.

Whenever you upload a photo or a new post, Facebook will ask if you want to tag anyone in the update – connecting your update with other profiles and broadening your community and reach with every share.

When you successfully tag someone in a post, that post becomes available and visible on their profile too – opening it up to a new audience and inviting even more engagement.

But what do you do if the tag won’t work? In this article, we’re sharing some of the most common reasons why you may find yourself unable to tag another user in a Facebook post.

They’re Not Your Friend on Facebook

If you try and tag someone on Facebook but cannot find their profile when you start searching for names, then it could be that you’re not friends with them on Facebook. If they have deleted you and made their profile private, or have blocked you on Facebook, then you will not be able to find them in search.

They’ve Deleted Their Account

If you are trying to tag someone who has deleted their account, it follows that you won’t be able to find them on search.

Your App Is Outdated

When you browse Facebook on an outdated version of the app, you will find that certain processes and experiences start to slow down or stop working completely.

The tagging process is one which may be impacted by an older version of Facebook, which no longer supports old features and tools. The easy way to overcome this is to update your Facebook app as soon as you can!

What if You Tag Them but It Doesn’t Appear on Their Feed?

You may find that you successfully tag someone in a post, only to head over to their feed later and see that the post isn’t visible on their page.

This means that while the tag has been added, they have added an approval process – and have not yet approved the post for their own profile and feed.

There is no way around this, and while the tag stills appears on your post or photo, it will not appear on the friend’s feed.

We hope this goes some way to explaining the reasons why you may find yourself struggling to add tags to posts – and why some tags simply never appear on the post itself.
