If you’ve recently uploaded a video to Facebook, you may be wondering who has seen and engaged with the content – and who simply scrolled past.

While tracking likes and comments is one of the easiest ways of seeing who is most engaged with your content, one of the overriding questions from users is whether it’s possible to see who has stopped and watched a video.

Unfortunately, there is no metric that lets Facebook users know who has viewed a video they post to their feed. However, you can see who has viewed a Facebook video shared to your story, and you are also able to see which users log into a Facebook Live at the time of posting.

What Can You See When You Post a Video?

If you post a video to your Facebook feed, it’s worth noting that the platform will let you know how many views your video has got – it just won’t let you know exactly who those viewers are.

If your video visibility is restricted only to friends, then you can be fairly certain that the view count is limited to your immediate circle. If a video is public or can be viewed by friends of friends, the view count may be higher, but you can be less certain of where those views have come from.

What Constitutes a ‘view’?

It’s worth noting that in order for a view to count, the video has to be playing on screen for at least 3 seconds. This avoids a view count being impacted by quick scrolls and browsers.

We hope this helps. There is no point getting too hung up on who has viewed your video, especially as there is no specific way of working out who your views are from. The more important metrics include engagement and likes, comments, and seeing how popular videos are once posted.
