There’s nothing quite so annoying as starting the perfect reel and then running out of time – especially when you need to use Instagram for something else, and so can’t simply leave your reel half complete on the screen, ready to return to later.

Luckily, Instagram allows you to save half-finished reels as drafts, which can then be reopened, edited, and shared at any time.

So whether you choose to save completed drafts ready for posting, or half-done reels that you need to continue editing later in the day, here’s where to find them.

Where to Find Draft Reels

To find your draft reels, you need to go through the motions of creating a new one.

  1. Head to your Instagram profile page and click on the plus sign in the square box, along the top of the screen
  2. Select ‘Create Reel’
  3. On the reel creation screen, you will see a carousel of options – including ‘Camera’, ‘Templates’, ‘Made for You’ and ‘Drafts’

NOTE: Drafts will only show as an option if you have a draft saved in the folder. If not, this will not be presented as an option.

  1. Click on ‘Drafts’ and find the reel that you want to continue editing and then post.

These drafts can all be posted at a time that suits you and will remain in the folder indefinitely until posted or deleted.

Finally, and in case you’re curious about how to save and created drafts, this option is offered whenever you try to exit a reel that you’ve been editing or working on – with Instagram checking that you want to leave, and asking if you want to save your progress as a draft.

We hope this helps and ensures that you never lose your hard work again!
