Instagram’s Close Friends feature is a great way of sharing specific content with a smaller, more targeted group of users.

It could be your closest group of friends, a selection of family members, some industry or networking connections, or a group of your most loyal fans or followers. Whatever your choice, the Close Friends list is an exclusive batch of followers that you have manually selected and added to a list, granting them access to content that you share specifically with them.

Armed with a Close Friends list, you can share posts, reels, and stories with them directly. In this article, we’re sharing the steps to create a story for Close Friends.

5 Steps To Create a Close Friends Story

  1. From your profile page, click on the plus sign in the square box at the top of the screen
  2. Select ‘Create Story’
  3. Create your story as you normally would, selecting a background image or video and adding any extra details and features in the form of stickers, GIFs, text, or music
  4. Once complete, you will see two buttons along the bottom of the screen next to the big white ‘Share’ arrow button. Click on the one that says ‘Close Friends’ with the green star icon
  5. What this does is share your story with only the users whom you have selected as part of your Close Friends list.

A Close Friends story is differentiated by others on your friends’ newsfeed with a green circle around the outside of your profile picture along their story carousel. Close Friends stories are also brought right to the front of the carousel so that your friends can’t miss them!

Once shared, the story acts in the same way as any other – disappearing after 24 hours. Only Close Friends can respond and interact with the story, making it the perfect place to share exclusive updates with your nearest and dearest!
