Many of the articles that we share are geared towards certain actions on Facebook, designed to improve your browsing experience and give individual users even more control over the platform and the way they interact with it.
Most of these actions are accessed via the Facebook Settings menu – clicking on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner, then navigating to ‘Settings and Privacy’ and ultimately ‘Settings’.
One thing you might have noticed whenever you head to your settings menu, is the shortcut content blocks that appear in the main menu page under your profile link. Taking you straight to areas of Facebook which include your friends list, upcoming events, pages and groups, these shortcuts are there to make browsing easy and to remove the need to constantly search for different things.
These shortcut boxes are linked with a default setting, that orders them based on usage.
But did you know that you can remove the shortcuts you don’t need or use from this area completely?
5 Steps to Remove a Shortcut From the Menu
- Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner and assess the shortcuts as they stand. Take note of which ones you want to remove from the menu
- Click on the cog in the top right hand corner of the menu to head into your Settings
- Select ‘Tab Bar’ underneath the heading ‘Preferences’
- Click on ‘Customise the Bar’ from the top of the Tab Bar menu
- You will see a list of all the shortcuts available. If you’ve never been in this menu before, they will also be under ‘Available’ and will all be set to ‘Auto’ for display. To remove a shortcut, click on the dropdown arrow next to ‘Auto’ and select ‘Hide’
Once you have hidden a shortcut menu item, it will no longer appear in your shortcuts menu. You can reverse this at any time by heading back into the Tab Bar and changing the visibility back to ‘Auto’.
If you select ‘Pin’ then you will secure the position of that item in your menu.
We hope this helps! Having a personalised shortcuts menu is the best way to really tailor and perfect your Facebook browsing experience, based on how you choose to use the app.
