Have you ever wondered whether or not you have been purposely unfriended on Facebook?
For many users, the hundreds of friends that they have on the platform makes it difficult to spot gaps and identify those who might be missing. However, one of the most interesting things about Facebook as a social app is the fact that once someone unfriends you, the action affects both sides.
While on social media platforms that operate a ‘Following’ structure, the act of unfollowing someone is not immediately obvious to the other user, on Facebook when you ‘Unfriend’ someone you also break their connection to your profile.
All of this leaves us with one question. How can you best see who unfriended you? To answer this, you need to dive into your own friends list.
What Happens if Someone Unfriends You?
When someone unfriends you on Facebook, they no longer see your updates in their feed – and you will no longer see their posts in your own feed.
This is because a friendship on Facebook is a mutual connection, and when one side breaks the connection, it removes the link completely.
So, when someone chooses to ‘unfriend’ you it means that your profiles are no longer connected on the platform.
Can You See Who Unfriended You?
There is no single action that you can take, or list that you can browse, to immediately tell who unfriended you.
However, what you can do is head to your own friends list on Facebook and see which names are no longer there. This is often sparked by a lack of recent interaction or by suddenly realising that you haven’t seen any posts or updates from another user in a while.
If you can’t see a name you would expect to see in your friends list, you can verify your friend status by searching for their profile and clicking to view it. If you see an option to ‘Add Friend’ under their profile picture, then you know you have been unfriended.
NOTE: If, when you search for the user’s profile, you can’t find it, it may be that they have deactivated or deleted their account completely. This does not mean that they have unfriended you, but rather than they are no longer active on Facebook.
We hope this helps. It’s never a nice feeling to realise that you have been unfriended by another user, but making sure that you get your facts straight is crucial before asking them directly why they no longer want to connect with you on Facebook.
