Unfortunately for Facebook users, the signs that someone has blocked you on the platform are almost identical to the signs that indicate they have deactivated their account.
In both cases, searching for their profile will not bring up any results, and you will not be able to see their updates or posts in your feed.
So, how do you know if you’ve been blocked or if they have removed themselves from Facebook completely?
The Signs That You’ve Been Blocked
If you’re wondering what to look for to tell if you’ve been blocked, these are the most common signs…
- You can no longer see the user’s updates in your feed
- You cannot send the user a direct message via Messenger
- You cannot tag the user in any comments or posts
- Searching for the user will bring up no results
- You can’t visit or see the user’s profile page or information
- The user doesn’t appear in your friends list on Facebook
All of these are classic hallmarks of a block on Facebook – but many crossover with the signs of a deactivated account. So, how do you tell the difference?
What Is Different if They Have Deactivated Their Account?
Perhaps the easiest way to tell if their account has been deactivated is to try searching for it via another account.
If the users’ account appears when you search via another login, then you can be sure that they have blocked your profile.
If you still cannot find their account even after using other logins and profiles to search, then it is more likely that they have deactivated their account.
And you don’t have to make another account to perform the above check. Consider asking a mutual friend to perform a quick search for you or ask them when the last update was shared from the suspect account. If they can see updates that you can’t see, or can visit the profile of the user, then again you can be fairly sure you have been blocked.
It’s never nice to realise that you’ve been blocked on Facebook – but sometimes what seems to be a direct and personal block is actually a full account deactivation. Be sure to follow the above tips to verify if you’ve been blocked or not before worrying.
