One of the benefits of Facebook for users, particularly those who use the app to keep in touch with friends from different stages of life, is the birthdays feature.
This is when Facebook shares the birthdays of people who you are friends with and invites you to share a birthday message on their wall at the click of a button.
But while the birthdays feature is great for those occasions that you remember, and for days that you purposely head into the birthdays section of Facebook to check upcoming events, for many users it’s only when they are notified that they really remember to share good wishes of celebration with a friend.
Here’s how to turn on birthday notifications on Facebook, in a handful of steps.
3 Steps to Turn on Birthday Notifications
- Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your screen and select ‘Settings and Privacy’
- Click ‘Settings’ then scroll down the menu until you find ‘Notifications’
- In the ‘Notifications’ menu you will see a selection of things that you can be notified about. Click on ‘Birthdays’
The page that appears will allow you to tailor and adjust the notifications that you receive regarding birthdays – namely whether you receive notifications, and what kind of notifications you get.
The options include push notifications (on the app), email, and SMS messages.
NOTE: In the wider Notifications menu, if you mute all push notifications using the toggle at the top of the page then all preferences will be switched off in favour of a clear notification screen. This is a quick and easy way to mute all notifications on Facebook when you need to, or you can personalise your experience using the individual options.
We hope this helps! Remembering to wish someone a happy birthday on Facebook is a good way of staying connected to friends from all walks of life. And armed with this information, we can help to make sure that you never miss a birthday again.
