In recent years, Facebook has given users more control over their reaction to different posts and updates on Facebook – moving away from the basic ‘Like’ and ‘Dislike’ buttons and offering a plethora of different emojis and reactions.
The heart is one of the options that users can now access as a reaction on Facebook.
When you add a heart reaction to a post or photo, you aren’t just liking it – you are saying that you ‘Love’ the post or update. This is a more emotive response, and something that is used to offer even more support than a standard thumbs up like.
How to Add a Heart Reaction to a Facebook Update
To access the heart icon and to share it in support of a Facebook post or update, follow these steps:
- Underneath the post or comment that you want to react to, press and hold on the thumbs up ‘Like’ icon
- A bubble will appear with different available reactions. Click on the heart icon
Your reaction will appear within a list of likes and will be indicated by a small heart icon underneath the post.
While viewed in the same way by Facebook in terms of its algorithm and in tracking engagement with different posts, users themselves rank heart reactions as higher than simple likes.
So, the next time you see a post that deserves your full support, why not ‘Love’ rather than ‘Like’ it.
