In a bid to encourage users to be more targeted with their captions and outreach strategy, TikTok has imposed a new restriction on the number of hashtags that can be added to each caption and new piece of content.
This is being gradually rolled out and discovered by users as they integrate hashtags within their content, with the limit popping up if they try and add more than five hashtags. It appears as a warning pop up, encouraging users to be specific with their tags and to consider each of the five available tags on each video.
But what does it mean for creators – and is it a good or a bad thing?
What Does the Hashtag Limit Mean?
Imposing a hashtag limit means that creators in particular need to be more targeted and direct with their hashtag selection.
Whereas hashtags used to be unlimited, with businesses and creators including a plethora of loosely connected hashtags to their content, those using TikTok now need to be more precise with niche tags.
The ultimate benefit of this is that content will be more targeted – with hashtags hopefully more relevant to the content that is being shared. This boosts engagement among active followers, drives interest from potential followers, and connects creators within the same sector with the same interests.
For creators who have increased their following using paid packages, as well as those who look to boost their views and engagement stats via purchased packages, this makes content more specific and helps new followers to identify USPs and key messages from the creator.
For those who want to build organic reach, the hashtag limit will support engagement among those who are interested in a specific niche.
Does this new hashtag limit change the way you will use TikTok?
