Facebook Reels are highly edited videos that are uniquely designed to engage your audience and evoke interaction with your audience – be it personal or related to a business venture.

With reels able to be constructed from multiple images and video clips, adding an overlay of sound, text, and more to add context and to deliver a cohesive finish, a reel is a great way to showcase an event, milestone, or occasion. They are also being used increasingly as forms of advertising, creating teasers for potential customers who are yet to discover the benefits of a new product or service.

And because reels are all made within Facebook and Instagram, Meta is able to keep users within the borders of its platform throughout the edit, upload, and share process.

Of course, there are limitations on the reels that you can create, with a maximum time limit set by the Meta team.

The Maximum Length of a Facebook Reel

Following a recent update, the maximum length for a Facebook Reel is now 90 seconds.

But does that mean that every reel you create needs to be 90 seconds in length?

Less Is More…

When it comes to Facebook content and videos across other social media platforms, the rule ‘less is more’ becomes incredibly important.

Users are flightier than ever before when it comes to watching vs. scrolling past in search of the next big thing. Creators typically have around 2 seconds to spark some interest and engage users, otherwise their content will simply be ignored in favour of the next post in a feed.

As such, not only should your reels be short and snappy, but they also need to have a hook that captures attention almost instantly. This could be a powerful opening frame, or it could be a compelling caption – or even both!

Whatever it is, making a great reel isn’t just about its length. It’s also about the format of the content and how you capture attention from users.

Happy creating!
