A Facebook Story is a form of content which lets users share snippets from their day, photo updates, text blocks, or videos – accessible and visible to their friends and followers for 24 hours before the content disappears.
Mimicking the popularity of Instagram Stories, Facebook’s story function is used to optimise and increase the amount of authentic and raw, unfiltered footage – with this kind of content overwhelmingly favoured by a modern audience.
What’s more, Facebook Stories come armed with tons of features and tools, enabling the creator to add music, layer images, add text, and use filters to change the view and look of certain screens and videos.
In this article, we’re looking specifically at music and how to add music to your Facebook Story.
But first, how do you create a story in the first place?
Creating a Facebook Story
The easiest way to start creating a Facebook story is by clicking on the large plus sign icon at the top of your Facebook app screen. Note here that you need to be using the device which has all your story content stored, as Facebook Story’s generator pulls content from your camera roll.
Select ‘Story’ and then choose from a Text screen, select a video or photo from your camera roll, or use the camera button to capture a fresh new shot / clip for your story.
Once you’re happy with the visual side, you can start to add the effects and little extras which enhance the user experience when watching your story, and which make your story more interactive.
Music is one of these add-ons – and you have a choice of when to add it!
Adding Music to Your Facebook Story
You can add music to a Facebook story before you upload the imagery / video, or after.
Before the Visual
Once you’ve selected the plus sign icon and chosen ‘Story’ from the new post menu, click on ‘Music’ which will be offered as an option along the top of the screen.
This invites you to choose the music for your story first, accessing the trending songs and clips via the feed list or searching for something specific via the search bar.
Once you’re happy with your musical choice, the Story creator tool will take you to a ‘Backgrounds’ screen where you can pick a colour background or a photo / video to accompany your song.
After the Visual
Again, you need to click on the plus sign and select ‘Story’, but then the first step is to scroll through your camera roll to find the right visual – or capture a new video or photo using the camera icon.
Once you’ve got your visual in place, you need to select ‘Music’ from the icons listed down the right hand side of your editing screen, and either select a trending audio clip or search for something specific.
Both of these processes will lay music over your Facebook story, making it super interactive and engaging for your followers and friends. Happy creating!
