Did you know that you can send money to others, and receive payments, using Facebook Messenger?

While this feature is reserved for specific locations and is not available to all users at present, it makes it easy for friends and family members to connect and pay each other back without leaving the comfort of a platform they are already familiar with (and which is backed by comprehensive security settings!)

Keep reading for the steps to send money via Facebook (currently accessible only in the US).

5 Steps to Send Money via Messenger

  1. Open the Messenger app
  2. Click on your profile picture at the top of the app screen and head into your Account Settings. Here you can tap ‘Facebook Pay’ and add your payment method which will connect Facebook with your account
  3. Open a chat with someone who you want to send money to
  4. Click on the blue plus sign icon along the bottom of the chat screen, next to the New Message box
  5. Click on the dollar symbol

Facebook Messenger will now show you a window in which to input how much money you want to send to the user. Enter an amount, then add a message to accompany your payment if you want to.

Tap ‘Ok’ to continue, and then enter the Pin code you set up when you linked your bank account.

Click the ‘Confirm’ button to send your payment. And voila! Within five days, the money will arrive with the recipient.

Other Ways of Sending Money on Facebook

Of course, you can also send money to influencers through a Facebook Live Stream, either as a gift or by sending them Facebook stars. This is a good way of supporting influencers and users who are trying to monetise their Facebook presence, and whose content you find valuable, interesting, or entertaining.

To do this, you simply need to click on their content and look for the star icon next to the ‘Write a Comment’ box. If you can see the star icon, click on it to send a gift – with the creator then able to withdraw those stars as cash when they have earned enough.
