From the ping of a new message to the swooshing sound your device makes whenever you refresh your news feed, browsing on Facebook is a multi-sensory experience. Every notification and message comes with its own sound and visual accompaniment, designed to keep users engaged and interacting within the app for as long as possible.
While the simplest and easiest way of turning off the sound is to mute your device, there are some instances where you might want to turn off Facebook sounds without impacting your other apps and device notifications.
Which is where this article come in. In it, we’re sharing a quick guide to adjusting the sound levels within your Facebook app exclusively.
3 Steps to Turn off Facebook Sounds
- Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your Facebook app
- Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ then ‘Settings’ from the menu
- Click on ‘Media’
Once in the Media menu, you will see an option at the top to turn ‘In-App Sounds’ on and off. Turning this off will mute all Facebook sounds within your app, without impacting any other sounds on your device.
Further down this Media menu, you will also see options to open videos and stories with or without sound. This allows you to extend your Facebook sound muting beyond notifications and into the content that you interact with. It means that when a video starts playing on your feed, or you open a story, the sound will not start playing until you turn the volume up or select the sound icon.
The benefit of these different options is that it allows you to tailor and personalise your own Facebook experience, taking control of sound and how much noise your Facebook app produces. We hope this helps!
