Have you ever noticed that, despite your music app being unconnected with Facebook, as soon as you open Facebook the music stops playing?

Whether you’re playing music through Spotify, Apple Music, or another app, there is a specific feature on Facebook which will stop your music from playing as soon as you open the app. And it all has to do with auto-play videos and sounds on Facebook.

What Is Auto-play?

Auto-play on Facebook is a setting which means videos and other forms of content start playing – with sound – automatically when you open the app. If you regularly use Facebook then you will have noticed that users can now upload posts and photos that have music attached, all designed to immerse other users in a complete experience when viewing their post.

But because most of these content types boast sound which enhances the user experience when watching the video or engaging with the post, it means that Facebook has to take steps to ensure its sound doesn’t overlap with music from other apps.

Which is why having auto-play switched on means that your music automatically switches off.

How to Turn off Auto-play on Facebook

In order to prevent your music from switching off when you open Facebook, you need to switch off auto-play.

There are various levels of control that users have over auto-play.

You can switch it off completely, restrict it to only coming on when you’re on WiFi, and adjust whether sound automatically plays across Stories, Videos, or both.

Here’s how to access the menu…

  1. Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your screen
  2. Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ then ‘Settings’
  3. Click on ‘Media’ from the menu
  4. Under the ‘Autoplay’ heading, adjust the settings according to your preference

NOTE: To completely switch off auto play and allow your music to keep playing regardless of your scrolling on Facebook, make sure that you tick the option labelled ‘Never Autoplay Videos’.

And there you have it! An easy to take back control of your Facebook feed and be able to browse the social app without losing your musical background.
