One of the great things about Facebook is the way that users can develop and build a community around them. From adding friends to joining groups, following pages, and sharing both photos and memories with their community, Facebook is an engaging and immersive social platform for all users.
Adding photos is just one of the ways that Facebook enables users to personalise their profile and experience – with photo tagging a tool that links a single image to all those who are featured in the photo.
But are you aware of the privacy setting that blocks tags from automatically being added to a profile? When users have this privacy setting activated, all tags – in photos and on posts – are sent to an approval page where the tagged individual has to approve the tag and allow it to be shown on their profile.
In this article, we’re taking you through the process of tag approval.
3 Steps to Approve a Tag
If you don’t have the tag review privacy setting activated, then it’s important to note that tags will automatically be approved. This is the default setting for Facebook users, with tags from friends immediately being added to their profile.
More on how to activate tag review in a moment – first, here’s how to find and approve a tag.
- When you are tagged in a photo or post, you will receive a direct notification
- Click on the notification to open the image or post
- Tick ‘Approve’ to confirm the tag, or ‘Decline’ to hide the post from your profile
How to Turn on Tag Review
Tag review is an extra layer of privacy which ensures that posts you are tagged in are only added to your profile – and made visible to your friends – with your approval.
To turn on tag review, you need to head into the ‘Settings and Privacy’ menu of your Facebook account. Once there, follow these steps:
- Click on ‘Profile and Tagging’ under ‘Audience and Visibility’
- Underneath the ‘Tagging’ heading, you will see a couple of options around who can see posts that you’re tagged in. Underneath the ‘Reviewing’ heading, you can switch tag review on and off – both for posts that you are tagged in, and for tags added to your posts
Activating tag review prevents a tagged post from appearing on your profile. However, it is important to note that if you are tagged in a post and don’t approve it, the tag will still pop up on other users’ feeds if they are friends with the original poster. You can remove the tag completely or ask the poster to take a post down if it really bothers you.
We hope this helps!
