Your Activity Log on Facebook is a great tool for tracking engagement, revisiting posts that you’ve commented on, and monitoring your posting schedule. It also keeps track of your search history and even dedicates a portion of the log to off-Facebook activity.
While lots of this information and data is used by Facebook to personalise your feed and tailor your experience on the app, there are some elements that users choose to wipe clean and remove.
Which is where this article comes in. In it, we are exploring the methods of clearing your activity log, keeping your browsing history and activity as private as possible.
Can You Clear Everything in Your Activity Log?
If you’ve ever visited the Activity Log before, you will already know that all the information stored is broken down into multiple areas and menus.
From Search History to Comments, Videos Watched, and Connections and Friendships, the various buttons and dropdown menus allow users to filter their activity – and more importantly, enable different sections of the Activity Log to be cleared.
This is important because there is no single button that allows the entire Activity log to be cleared – rather, users need to dive into individual areas of the Log to clear and delete data.
How to Wipe Search History
One of the most common questions when it comes to clearing the Activity Log is how to quickly clear Facebook Search History.
To do this, you need to head into your Activity Log – via the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, then your Settings and ‘Activity Log’.
Once in the Log, scroll along the blue button carousel until you see one labelled ‘Search History’. Click on this, then select the ‘Clear Searches’ button at the top of the activity list.
Deleting Individual Activities
If there is a particular activity that you want to remove from your Facebook log, then the best way to do so is via the ‘Your Facebook Activity’ menu in your Activity Log.
Clicking on the ‘Your Facebook Activity’ button on the screen will open a dropdown of options relating to different types of activity. If it’s a comment you want to remove, select the ‘Manage Comments and Reactions’ button. If it’s a Post or Tag, then opt for the relevant buttons relating to those actions.
Once you’ve found the activity that you want to remove, click on the three dots next to the activity and select ‘Remove Reaction’ (or similar).
NOTE: This doesn’t just remove the activity from the log but will also remove it from the Facebook post that you shared your comment or reaction on. The Activity Log is a central log of everything you’ve done on Facebook, facilitating the removal of comments and reactions directly.
Alternatively, clicking on the ‘Activity History’ button at the top of the Log will open a list of all your activity on Facebook by date order – with the most recent posts and reactions at the top of the page.
We hope this helps! Facebook remains one of the best social media platforms for engagement and activity, keeping users connected with their friends, with interesting pages and with relevant groups. However, not every activity needs to be tracked and stored – which is why so many users choose to occasionally clear their search history and remove certain actions from the log.
