Copy and paste is a technical function that allows blocks of copy to be transferred from one place to another.

However, the device that you use has an effect over what you can copy and paste.

Copying and pasting on a PC device enables users to select specific words and phrases and copy them. This is done by moving the mouse over the words that you want copied and highlighting them, before clicking with the right hand button on the mouse and selecting ‘Copy’. The text can then be pasted into your own status update, into a Direct Message, or into another app on your device.

Copying and pasting on a mobile device is a little different, especially if you use the Facebook app. Pressing a finger onto a status update or block of text will bring up a box that reads ‘Copy’ – copying the text and any emojis within it. Again, this can be pasted into a WhatsApp or text message, into the caption of another app, or into your own status update or message on Facebook. To paste, simply press and hold again in the text field and you will see a ‘Paste’ pop-up appear on the screen. Tapping this will import the text copied from Facebook.

Can You Copy Images?

If you want to transport an image from an existing Facebook page or update into your own copy, then the best thing to do is to Save it.

Alternatively, to copy an entire article complete with images and blocks of text, you can always Share the article instead and copy the link. By copying the link and then pasting it in your own status update or in a Direct Message, you carry over all the relevant information while honouring the original poster.

We hope this advice helps. The copy and paste function is a great way to avoid having to retype full blocks of copy word for word. The only thing you need to be aware of when copying and pasting is any copyright – that is, repurposing existing content under your own name. Crediting the original author or poster is important.
