Facebook is designed to keep users engaged as frequently as possible, by constantly updating their home feed, recommending videos and posts that they might enjoy, and of course sending notifications.
If you are an active user on Facebook, you will already know that not all the notifications you receive are specific to you. In fact many notifications are linked to pages that you follow or content that the platforms thinks you might be interested in – in an attempt to continue building your community and learning more about you.
In this article, we’re providing a quick guide on how to delete notifications and how to let Facebook know which notifications you’re interested in and which you aren’t – so that you can keep tailoring and personalising your experience on the platform.
3 Steps to Delete Individual Notifications
- Click on the ‘Notifications’ tab along the bottom of your screen, attached to the bell icon
- Find the notification that you want to delete and click on the three dots located to the right hand side of the notification
- Select ‘Delete This Notification’
You will see the notification disappear instantly. However, this will not have any lasting impact on the notifications that you receive. To change the types of notifications that Facebook shows you, and to limit your exposure to notifications that you don’t need or want to see, you need to make a different selection…
How to Personalise Your Notifications
When you press on the three dots to the right hand side of the notification, you will see a few other options alongside the ‘Delete’ option.
These include:
- Turn Off These Notifications
- Report Issue
- Only Get Highlights From This Group
The options you are given will depend on the type of notification it is. For example, if the notification is one letting you know that a page or individual has posted, then you can select ‘Turn Off These Notifications’ to receive fewer “new post” notifications. Alternatively, if you’re dealing with a notification from a group, the ‘Only Get Highlights…’ option will remove the frequency of group notifications and show only the most interesting.
The more actions like these you take, telling Facebook what you want to see more of and taking the time to restrict and ask the platform to ‘Show Less’ of things you aren’t interested in, the better your experience on the platform will be.
Happy browsing!
