There are several ways that restrictions can manifest themselves on a Facebook account.
It could be that you are unable to log into and access your Facebook account, or it could be that you are restricted from certain activity and engagement on the platform.
Whatever it is, the first step to removing restrictions is to recognise why the restriction is in place and whether it’s something you can remove or that you have to wait to be lifted.
How Do You Know if Your Account Is Restricted?
If your account has been restricted, there are three main signs to look out for:
- You are unable to login to your account at all
- You cannot access your account for a period of time due to a suspension
- You can log in and view content, but you cannot interact or engage via the platform
These restrictions are typically due to either suspicious activity that Facebook has flagged, or a violation that Facebook has spotted – with the user’s account being penalised as a result.
Common Reasons for Account Restrictions
The most common reasons behind an account being restricted include a number of failed login attempts that flags up as suspicious to Facebook, and some form of violation in terms of engagement or content uploading from the user.
The aim is always to protect users, be it the owner of the account that Facebook believes has been compromised, or other users who may see the kind of content that the user is posting, and that Facebook deems to be inappropriate.
Most restrictions placed on your account by Facebook will need to be waited out – that is, the restrictions will be lifted after a few days at most. If they aren’t, or you don’t agree with the restrictions, you can appeal the decision via the Support page on Facebook.
How to Remove Restrictions You Place on Other Users
The other form of restriction available on Facebook is that which you can place on other users’ accounts.
If you have someone in your friends list who you want to restrict (in other words ‘block’), you can do so via their profile page or by clicking on the three dots button in the corner of their post.
At a later date, if you want to reinstate them to full visibility of your profile and content, you will need to remove the block or restriction, by heading into your Facebook settings and clicking through to the menu labelled ‘Blocking’.
Via this menu, you can then find their name and remove the block, so that they can once again see your content and engage with you as normal.
With several different forms of restriction available on Facebook, impacting the experience of different users depending on whether they are restricting others or have had restrictions imposed on their own account, we hope this article helps you to make sense of it all!
