- Navigate to the profile page of the user who you want to restrict
- Click on the button that reads ‘Friends’ with the small tick icon, and then select ‘Edit Friend Lists’
- Select ‘Restricted’ then ‘Done’ to confirm the action
This will add the user to your Restricted List without removing them as a friend – thereby ensuring that they do not know you have limited their access to your information and posts.
What Happens When You Restrict Someone on Facebook?
Anyone who is added to your Restricted List on Facebook will see a restricted view of your profile and personal information. They will be able to see everything that you have set to ‘Public View’ on your profile but will not be able to view anything that is set for ‘Friends’ – despite still being listed as one of your friends.
They will also be able to see the posts that they are tagged in and that you are both tagged in together.
This is unarguably the best way to limit someone’s access to your information and posts, without them realising. It’s quick and easy and can be undone or edited with ease from your own profile – heading to your Friends list, then selecting ‘Custom Lists’ and ‘Restricted’ to remove users from the list.
