To be blocked on Facebook can feel like the ultimate snub.
When you are blocked by a Facebook friend, you are no longer able to visit or view their profile, send them messages, or interact with any of their content. You might see their name pop up in comments under a mutual friends post, but outside of these mutual spaces you will not be able to track their activity or engage with them.
Suffice to say, being blocked by another user isn’t a particularly pleasant experience. But how can you tell if you’ve been blocked by a friend?
In this article, we’re outlining some of the quickest and easiest ways of identifying who blocked you on Facebook. Let us know if any of these work for you…
Option 1: Search for Users
In order for this to work, you need to have enough suspicion about a Facebook friend to have already identified them as a potential blocker.
Arguably the most common indicator of a potential block is not seeing any updates from them on your Facebook feed.
Once you have some names in mind of users who may have blocked you, it’s time to conduct a quick search. Typing their name into the search bar on your Facebook homepage will quickly confirm whether or not you are still able to view and visit their profile. If not, either they have blocked you or they have deleted their account – there is no way to confirm which without asking them directly.
Option 2: Head to Your Inbox
If a user has blocked you on Facebook, then they will not receive messages that you send to them.
In most cases, opening a chat with a user who has blocked you will show a grey silhouette in place of their profile picture. You will not be able to send any messages, nor will you be able to click through to their profile.
Again, the same is true for users who have deleted or deactivated their account, creating some challenges around determining if it’s just you or all friends who can no longer contact them. One of the best methods of verification is asking someone who you know is a mutual friend on Facebook. If they can view the users profile as normal but you can’t, the chances are that you have been blocked.
Can I Unblock Myself?
If someone has blocked you, it can be difficult to get in touch with them and find out why. After all, once they have blocked you, you can no longer message them directly or reach out to ask.
While there is no way that you can unblock yourself directly, you can try reaching out to the user via mutual friends or on another platform to ask why you have been blocked.
All in all, getting blocked on Facebook can be difficult to take – however, be wary that you don’t accuse someone of blocking you when they may simply have deactivated or suspended their account. We hope this helps!
