With users able to tailor their Facebook news feed according to their content preferences and favourites, as well as the ads that they are interested in and those that they don’t like, it’s safe to say that no two Facebook feeds are the same.
We can also thereby assume that on occasion, the format and content within a Facebook feed will start to become irrelevant to users as their interests change. A topic that you were once interested in may no longer apply – while ads that you hid start to become more appealing and interesting.
What this means is that, while tailoring your Facebook feed is an important part of the Facebook user experience, sometimes the actions you take need to be reversed and reset. It is only by reversing some of these actions that you can restore a standard Facebook feed and integrate new interests and hobbies.
How to Remove Feed Favourites
In your Facebook Settings, you’ll find a menu dedicated to Content Preferences.
This deals with what you see on your feed and is where you’ll find all the steps that have been taken which impact your feed.
Removing the ‘Favourites’ status of Facebook friends and pages that you follow will reset content without the preferential status given to certain users and posts.
How to Change Like and Dislike Behaviour
If you have previously spent time providing feedback on your Facebook feed and the content found in it, then you may need to change or remove these likes and dislikes in order to reset your feed.
After all, Facebook consistently tracks your interactions to tailor your feed – and if there are topics that are no longer visible on your feed due to previous feedback, you won’t be able to react positively to it and increase its presence in the future.
To do this, you need to head into your Activity Log in your Facebook settings and navigate to ‘Preferences’. Here you can see some of the videos that you’ve chosen to see more or less of and reverse those actions.
You can also follow the process outlined in the above section of this article, which deals with ‘Content Preferences’. This is where you’ll find everything to do with Favourites, Snoozed content, content you’ve Unfollowed and people who you’ve hidden from your feed.
Again, you can sift through and remove any existing blocks and filters on your feed, to reset it and restore it to a full breadth of content.
Via these different processes, you can start to rebuild a Facebook feed which can then be tailored according to your new interests and lifestyle habits.
TOP TIP: In addition to all of this, why not go looking for the kind of content you want to see and purposely mark that as interesting? This will start to change the layout and content within your feed and will keep your feed up to date.
