One of the great things about Facebook is the way that users can stay connected with their friends, by posting on their wall, sending them Direct Messages, engaging with their content, and tagging them in posts and photos.

While there are optional privacy settings that mean you have to approve all tags before they appear on your profile feed, typically when someone tags you in a photo or post, it will automatically link to your profile and become visible to your friends and connections.

Which leaves us with a question… what do you do when someone tags you in a post that you don’t want to be linked to?

3 Steps to Untag Yourself in a Photo

  1. Navigate to the photo you have been tagged in, either directly via your profile feed or by heading into your Tagged Photos album and then clicking on the image to open it in full screen view
  2. Click on the three dots icon in the top right hand corner of the photo
  3. Select ‘Remove Tag’ from the list of options

As tagged photos are directly connected to your profile, removing the tag means that users will no longer be able to click on your named tag and land directly on your profile page. It also means that the photo will no longer appear on your profile or in your Tagged Photos album.

How to Switch on Tag Review

Tag review is one of the best settings when it comes to privacy and preventing friends from tagging you in posts that you don’t want to link with your profile.

It essentially means that every time you are tagged in a post or photo, you receive a notification inviting you to approve the tag and showcase it on your profile or delete it. To turn on tag review, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen
  2. Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ then ‘Settings’
  3. Scroll down the list to the Audience and Visibility section of the menu, and select ‘Profile and Tagging’
  4. Switch on the toggle for ‘Reviewing’

Activating this review stage of any Facebook tag means that you likely won’t need to spend as much time removing tags, as any that you don’t like can simply be declined.

We hope this helps you to personalise your profile and help control your profile tag and view on Facebook.
