Ads are a big part of the Facebook browsing experience, keeping brands and business pages connected with their target audience and core demographic.
As such, deleting and removing all ads from your account is not possible.
However, what you can do as a Facebook user is let the platform know when you don’t like a particular ad, or when you scroll past an ad which isn’t relevant to you, by choosing to hide it.
The more you do this, and the more time you spend keeping Facebook updated on your interests and likes and dislikes, the more appropriate and relevant the ads shown on your feed will be.
In short, you cannot delete ads completely from Facebook – but you can hide ones that you don’t like, and let Facebook know when you see ads that you do like. The more you do this, the more relevant the ads on your page will be.
How to Let Facebook Know Which Ads You Like / Dislike
Any time you see an ad on Facebook, there is a process that you should follow…
- Click on the three dots icon in the top right hand corner of the ad
- If you like the ad and are interested in it, select ‘Show More’
- If you don’t like the ad and don’t want to see ads like it again, select ‘Show Less’
Our advice is to follow this process both when you like, and when you don’t like, an ad, to keep Facebook updated as to your preferences. The more you do this, the better your Facebook experience will be.
Deleting Ads That You Don’t Like
Following the above process will gradually let Facebook know which kinds of ad you are interested in and which you don’t want to see. This is an ideal process to follow in the long run, as it will constantly track your activity and interactions, and ensure that all future ads are in line with your preferences as a user.
But there is another option too.
When you click on the three dots icon in the top right hand corner of the ad, you will see an option to ‘Hide Ad’. This is exclusive to this specific ad and ensures that the ad will never appear on your feed again.
Alternatively, you can click on the ‘X’ icon in the top right hand corner of the ad to remove it in one click. This does the same thing as the ‘Hide Ad’ button but is even more efficient.
While this does not inform future ads in the same way that the aforementioned process does, this will quickly and effectively remove an unwanted ad from your feed – no questions asked.
