One of the great things about Facebook is the fact that users can upload existing content that they have created on other platforms and apps, or design and create videos from scratch within Facebook.
The access to editing tools and creative features makes Facebook not just a platform for sharing but also a creative outlet for users from all walks of life – whether they want to transform an album of photos into a cohesive video, or film something fresh and unique.
In this article, we’re sharing the best ways to make a video using Facebook.
How to Make a Facebook Reel
Reels are accessible across both Facebook and Instagram as short form blocks of content which are highly engaging and incredibly shareable. They can be up to 90 seconds in length, with Facebook’s Reel Creation feature giving users as much or as little control over the creative process as they like.
Often layered with trending audio clips or following a trending theme or format, reels are easy to flick through – and even easier to make!
- Click on the plus icon along the top of the Facebook screen
- Select ‘Reel’
- You can now select the photos or video clips you want to include in your reel, click on ‘Select Multiple’ if you want to include and integrate several different pictures and clips into the single video
- Once you’re happy with your selection, click ‘Next’
- ‘Recommend Audio’ is available in the carousel along the bottom of the screen, or you can tap the button with the search magnifying glass and search for specific songs and audio clips
- On the final editing screen, users can add extra effects or change the duration that each image is on screen for
Once you’re happy with your reel, it needs a title and a description – then it’s ready to share!
How to Upload an Existing Video to Facebook
Adding an existing video means uploading something which is already saved in your device camera roll or album.
To do this, simply follow these steps…
- Click on the ‘What’s on Your Mind’ box at the top of your home screen or profile feed
- Select ‘Photo/Video’ from the list of content options underneath the main text box
- Select the video you want to upload
- Add a caption and share it to your feed
NOTE: You can only upload videos that are saved onto your device via this method, and should always seek to credit the original poster or creator if the video is something that you got from someone else.
How to Record a Video Live on Facebook
Another type of video which is becoming increasingly popular on social media is live video – that is, raw and unfiltered footage that gives users some behind the scenes insight into the creator’s routine, location, or a specific experience.
Sharing a live video is quick and easy and allows you to share footage in real time with your friends – evoking live reactions and comments. Creators and influencers use live video as a way to get feedback and build engagement among their followers, while private users might choose to use a live video during an event or special occasion.
Whatever it is, the process is as follows:
- On your Facebook homepage or profile feed, click in the ‘What’s on Your Mind’ status update box
- Under the text box, find ‘Live Video’ in the list of content options
- Click on the blue ‘Go Live’ button at the bottom of your screen – and start your video!
You will be able to see which of your friends are online at the time of posting and can even add a description so that friends know what your live video is about.
The Benefit of Video Sharing on Facebook
Regardless of how you make your video, and the kind of content and updates it contains, video is one of the most engaging forms of content on Facebook.
Videos are more likely to be shared, are more likely to exhibit reactions and encourage interaction, and are much more shareable.
What’s more, with so many different ways and types of video to share, users really can build the content that works for them and their audience with ease. We hope this both helps and inspires you – happy creating!
