Running a Facebook page can sometimes feel like a fulltime job, especially when an active community means you have to screen comments and facilitate new posts and announcements on a daily basis.
As a result, transferring ownership from one user to another has become a part of the management process for many community and business pages, ensuring that the responsibility does not fall on one individual for a prolonged period of time.
So, how do you transfer ownership and ensure that the page remains under full control?
What Does Page Ownership Mean?
Before we dive into the process of transferring ownership, let’s consider what the role involves and what it means for users.
The Facebook page owner is the individual responsible for the page and what it represents. For a business page, this ownership will be held by the business owner or the social media manager who they appoint in charge of the page.
The role involves being able to invite people to like or engage with the page, managing its details and information, assigning and appointing responsibilities to other admin members, and of course fielding comments and posts across the page.
5 Steps to Transfer Page Ownership
The first and most important thing to note is that only Admin members have the power to control everything about a Facebook page including its ownership.
If a page is unclaimed then users can apply to be assigned ownership, but they have to prove that they own or are involved in the business that the page represents.
- Make sure that you are logged into Facebook on a computer or desktop device, as this process will not work on the Facebook app
- Navigate to your Facebook page then head into your Settings
- Click ‘Page Transparency’
- Underneath ‘Assign Page Owner’ select ‘Assign’
- The individual who you assign must already be an admin member and be listed as a business manager in your Business Settings
While assigning a new page owner is the best thing to do if you are stepping away from the business and handing it over to someone else, it’s worth noting that the layout and set-up of Facebook in 2024 means that Admin members have as much power as Page Owners.
So, it may not be worth your time assigning a new page owner. Instead, making them admin will give them the exact same power.
We hope this helps!
