A popular feature on Facebook is the ability to revisit your watched videos, whether to remind yourself about something you saw and want to replicate, or to share a video with a friend or loved one.

The beauty of Facebook’s watched videos feature is the fact that you don’t have to have liked or even saved the video – rather, it is simply transferred over to your watched videos grid for future reference and activity tracking.

And the benefits don’t end there.

Facebook itself uses data from your watched videos to track your interests, further personalising your feed based on the content you spend time watching and engaging with.

Suffice to say, there are plenty of benefits behind the watched videos feature. But what happens when your interests change, and you want to start resetting your activity on Facebook?

In this article we’re sharing more about why you might choose to delete your watched videos on Facebook, and how to do it.

Why Might Your Delete Your Watched Videos on Facebook?

Because watched videos are contained within a grid that only you can watch and have access to, the main motivation behind deleting your watched videos is a desire to resent your activity and start training Facebook’s algorithm into changing the style of content on your feed.

Imagine for a moment that you are getting married. You might engage with tons of wedding content in the lead up to your wedding, thereby telling Facebook that this is the kind of content you are interested in. After the wedding though, this wedding content and inspiration is no longer relevant – and so you need to take steps to redirect your activity towards other topics and interests, thereby altering your algorithm.

Deleting your watched videos is the first step in activating your own reset on your Facebook feed.

5 Steps to Delete Your Watched Videos

  1. Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your Facebook app
  2. Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ then ‘Settings’
  3. Scroll down until you find ‘Activity Log’ in the menu
  4. This will open an Activity Log menu with plenty of options and filters. Beneath the grey buttons for Archive and Recycling Bin, you will find a carousel of blue buttons. Scroll along these until you find ‘Videos Watched’ – and click on the button
  5. At the top of the feed, select ‘Clear Video Watch History’

Confirm the action by selecting ‘Clear’ from the pop up box.

And voila! Your video watch history is now wiped, and you can start to rebuild your interests and recommended videos based on your new and more up to date interests.

We hope this helps!
