Do you have a photo from a recent event or memory that you want to share on Facebook? Here’s our quick guide to uploading a photo, complete with a caption and other details to help add context.

3 Steps to Upload a Photo to a Post

  1. In the Facebook app, click on the ‘What’s on Your Mind’ post heading at the top of your newsfeed and/or profile page
  2. Select the green icon with the label ‘Photo/Video’
  3. A grid of photos will appear, as Facebook connects with your device album. Click in the top right hand corner of the image (or images) that you want to upload

Select ‘Done’ when all the photos that you want to upload, to progress onto the next stage of your post…

Tagging Friends in Your Photo

Tagging friends in your photo is a great way to make the content more engaging, to draw friends’ attention to it, and to connect your profile and post with their profiles.

To tag a friend, click on the blue icon that shows the outline of a person along the bottom of the posting box. Tick the boxes of the people who you want to tag in the post.

Alternatively, click on the photo to open it in full screen mode then find the same icon along the top of the screen. Click on a face or area of the photo that you want to tag, and search for the relevant friend.

Tagged friends will either be asked to approve the photo being added to their own profile, or it will be automatically linked to their profile, depending on their privacy settings.

NOTE: You can also tag locations in your photo by tapping the red location marker icon in the Create Post box.

Adding a Caption to Your Photo

Once all the tags are in place, you can add a caption which tells the story of your photo.

You can add emojis to this or keep it as a clear and concise written caption – add the ‘@’ sign if you want to directly mention and tag other users or pages in your caption post.

Once you’re happy with your post and the details you’ve added to the photo, tap ‘Next’ to finalise and share your post. It’s as simple as that!

Where Does Your Photo Go When Posted?

Once you have finalised your post and shared it to Facebook, there are two different ways of finding the photo again.

  1. The first is to head to your profile page and scroll down until you find the post.
  2. The second is to head into the photos section of your profile, then tap ‘Photos’. This opens a grid of all the photos that you have uploaded yourself, under the header ‘Your Photos’.

‘Tagged Photos’ are the pictures that you have been tagged in by other users and by yourself, while individual albums exist when you choose to segment photos by date or occasion.

We hope this helps you to not only post and upload new photos but also to find the photos that you’ve uploaded in the past quickly and seamlessly!
