A Facebook post is an update that you share with your friends and followers, that appears on your profile feed alongside any likes and comments it receives.

A post can be constructed of simple text, or it can include photos, videos, and other details – including tags, check-ins, and more.

One of the most telling things about a Facebook post is the way that the platform itself introduces each post. The box into which you enter your post is titled ‘What’s on your mind?’ – encouraging users to share posts which give insight into what they are up to or how they are feeling.

While some use posts sparingly, others update their posts every day – depending on how they use and engage with the platform and their connections on it.

With all that said, how do you post on Facebook and what are the different styles of post that users can share?

How to Share a Post

There are several different ways of sharing a post, though the process remains the same.

You are looking out for the box that reads ‘What’s on your mind?’ with a small version of your profile picture next to it. Tapping in this box will open a text field into which you can type your post or upload one of the different styles listed in the next section of this article.

You will find this text box at the top of your Facebook homepage, and at the top of the feed on your profile page.

You can also share a post directly into a group that you have joined, following the same instructions.

Understanding the Different Types of Facebook Post

When you click on the box to enter a new post, whether it be to your feed or in a group, there are a number of icons that introduce different types of post you can share.

A check-in post, for example, is one where you connect your update to a specific place. This is a post letting friends and followers know where you are and what you are up to.

A photo post might share just one image, or it could become an album of images, with users able to share upwards of 20 photos in a single post.

Other posting options and styles include:

Live Events, Fundraising drives, an Event, Music, a GIF, a Feeling, and more.

Or you can keep it simple with a few words and perhaps a couple of emojis to add context and tone.

In short, a Facebook post is whatever you want it to be – and whatever you think will inspire and interest your audience, whether they be friends and family members or consumers who follow your business.
