When you come across a Facebook post from a page or another user, there are several ways of engaging with it.
One of the most popular is a quick ‘Share’ – putting the post on your own page so that your friends and followers can see and engage with it too.
In this article, we’re sharing a quick guide on how to share a post, alongside some information on how shared posts work.
3 Steps to Share a Post
- Find the post that you want to share, and click on the ‘Share’ button in the bottom right hand corner next to ‘Like’ and ‘Comment’
- Add a caption and filter the users whom you want to share the post with. You can also adjust the location where your shared post appears, by clicking on the ‘Feed’ dropdown. This will open a series of options including sharing to a friend’s profile, to a group or to a page that you manage
- Once you’ve added a caption, click on ‘Share Now’
What Does a Shared Post Look Like?
When you share a post, you will see an option to ‘Say Something About This’ inside a text box.
This text box enables you to add your own comment which sits at the top of the shared post, adding your own spin or opinion to the content within the post.
When a friend of yours sees a post that you have shared, they can choose to engage with your share as its own independent post or click through to view and engage with the original post.
There is also an option to bypass the full profile share and instead send a post to someone that you are friends with on Facebook. This is a different type of share, but still sits as an option within the overarching ‘Share’ button.
The Benefits of Sharing a Post
With all that in mind, why should you share posts that you see on Facebook?
The main purpose behind sharing a post is increasing its visibility – be it brand awareness for a local business or sharing an important update or notification with your friends or local community.
The process also allows users to add their own opinion and heading / caption to a shared post, personalising the content further.
Whatever your reason for sharing a post, we hope this article has showed just how easy the process is.
