When you block someone on Facebook, they can no longer visit your profile or engage with your content. They will not see your updates, and they can’t send you any direct messages over Messenger.

This is because, while Facebook and Messenger are two separate apps, they are still connected under the same profile and account – meaning that when you block someone on one, the action transfers over to the other.

Before we dive into the process of unblocking someone on Facebook Messenger, one very important thing to note is that if you do unblock them on Messenger, they will also be unblocked on Facebook. This will enable them to, once again, access your profile and see / engage with your content.

4 Steps to Unblock Someone on Messenger

  1. Open the Messenger app and click on the menu button in the top left hand corner
  2. Select the cog icon at the top of the menu
  3. Select ‘Privacy and Safety’ and then find ‘Blocked Accounts’ in the menu
  4. A list of blocked accounts will appear. You can add new names to this via the ‘Add’ button at the top of the list, or you can click on an individual name and select ‘Unblock on Facebook’

NOTE: Because Messenger and Facebook are connected and unblock a user simultaneously, you can also unblock them via Facebook and then head over to Messenger to respond to or send them a message – with no further action required.

We hope this helps! The blocking feature is a great way to prevent specific users from being able to contact you if you want to keep them at arm’s length – however, it is worth knowing just how easy it is to reverse the action too.
